  The Early Years

I fell into riding accidentally when a friend in my class at school suggested I went with her, I was about 8 or 9 at the time and have to say it was one of those life changing decisions that I have never regretted.

On leaving school at 15 I went to work at the Queen Elizabeth Riding School, Chingford, in the heart of Epping Forest, a few years later the Lizzy was up for sale and with the help of my parents who re-mortgaged their house to help me I became the proud owner of 12 horses and ponies and the lease on the property.

For the next 12 years I worked 7 days a week and late into the evenings to pay them back and to make a success of the school, this was really good ground work for me and I will never forget the support my parents gave me in those early. I eventually sold the Queen Elizabeth Riding School 12 years later in 1986 to go freelance.

My riding school horses at an Inter Riding School Competition which we won!!

Once the school was sold I moved my own horses into a friend’s yard and spent the next few years on the road as a freelance trainer. It was during this time that I started teaching Michael and Adrienne Barnett of Nominee Assurance Holdings Ltd, this was another life changing moment as they agreed to sponsor me on my young horse Lord Helpus (Bradley) who I had high hopes of, and they continued to sponsor me for nearly 20 years which must be something of a record.
